Everyone’s journey to becoming a family is unique. At Reproductive Partners Fertility Center – San Diego (RPSD) we provide personalized treatment plans that take all of our patients’ individual needs into consideration.
Family Building for Lesbian Couples
If you plan to give birth to child, we recommend that you get a Fertility Awareness Checkup to learn if there are any issues that might prevent your ability to conceive. The next step would be to determine whether to use the sperm of someone you know, or to utilize a sperm bank. Then, based on your medical needs, your physician will explore with you whether Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the best option.
Family Building for Gay Couples
If you decide surrogacy is the best option for you, one of the first steps is to decide whether someone you know will carry your child, or if you would like to work with a surrogacy agency. The next step is to determine if you prefer using your surrogate’s egg or a donor egg. After medical screening, your surrogate will either be treated through artificial insemination or IVF using sperm from you, your partner or from a sperm donor. Once pregnant, she will carry the pregnancy to term and give birth. You should be aware that regardless of whether a surrogate is known or is recruited by an agency, there are many tests and legal steps required to keep all parties safe and to avoid future problems.
Pursuing Adoption
Some couples decide that adopting an infant or older child is the perfect choice for them. A large number of domestic and international adoption agencies have been working successfully for many years with gay and lesbian couples.
